APSC 1001 in the news! Student apps from our class (that’s right, YOUR work!) were featured in a recent SEAS newsletter. Give it a read and share it with your friends and family! Once again, congrats on a job well done with these excellent apps.

APSC 1001 has a longstanding tradition of recognizing student participation, engagement, and creativity with “brownie points”. Moving the class online means tweaking the tradition a little, so here we’re featuring student-made Thunkable assignment submissions that we felt were exceptionally creative and beyond the scope of what we were expecting.

Of course, it’s always difficult to pick the top 3-5 out of so many excellent creations – we love seeing your hard work, even if it isn’t showcased here!

Final Project

After the final project presentations, both the instruction team and the students voted on their favorite app.

• INSTRUCTION TEAM AWARD: Group 3’s Quarantine Quality app made by Jack Brookshaw, Kaj Boeri, and Ben Chapman
• STUDENT CHOICE AWARD: Group 7’s Crowd Alert app made by Lucas Mah, Lily Samoyan, and Joachim Santiago

• Henry Mackay used Thunkable variables to make a custom-length timer ⌚
• Maria Hayes Navas made a “relaxation timer” that plays relaxing wave sounds 🏝

• Rigel Brown made a spin-off of the Magic 8 Ball toy 🎱
• Lily Samoyan made a slideshow to guide you through the motions at the beginning of “Avatar: The Last Airbender” 🌊🪨🔥💨
• Marcela Pineda made an emergency app to call 911 when the phone is shaken 🚨

Assignment 2

• Rigel Brown added a fun animation and cleaned up the UI 📱
• Jack Brookshaw reimagined the app into a golf shot timer ⛳
• Jack Palaian added a reminder to vote featuring Barack Obama 🗳
• Caitlyn Hollander’s timer cycles through colors during the countdown and has a happy surprise at the end 🎨
• Henry MacKay’s timer includes an awesome weather report integration ⛅
